Benford’s Law

Benford’s Law┬ádescribes the distribution of first digits in umbers. Here’s a demo. No instructions included because instructions are lame.

On the right bar, this is a button labeled import. After clicking this, you can select files to analyze. These will appear on the left side of the screen. By clicking them, you can toggle which ones are being analyzed. It will automatically populate the two boxes to the right side of the screen and draw a small bar graph. The first box is just the total number of that digit it found. The second box is the percent of the total.

On the right side, there is a button labeled “Switch”. This takes you to a screen that graphs the percent of numbers beginning with some digit, out of the series from one to n. The first slider lets you change which digit it is showing the percent for. The log scale toggles whether it is drawing in a log scale. The final slider changes what n is: how many numbers it is checking under. YOU HAVE TO CLICK REDRAW OR PRESS ENTER FOR YOUR CHANGES TO SHOW.
